"Hastert Rule" has to go

This unwritten rule, which the Republican-led House of Representatives has been following scrupulously, means that Paul Ryan will not bring any bill to a vote unless they can pass it with only Republican votes and no Democrats.

So if a bill is supported by 80% of members of both parties, it will not come up for a vote because it couldn't pass with only 80% of Republicans voting for it.

The Hastert Rule is an affront to our democracy. It forces hyper-partisanship instead of encouraging compromise and common-sense solutions.
